thảo luận Practicing English with vOzers :D

For me, my best way to improve in speaking is listening and shadowing at the same time. You should buy a pair of Bluetooth headphones then try to listen to English podcasts then repeat what they are talking about. You can do it while you're washing dishes, cleaning your house,... whenever you want.

I want to learn English from movies, but:
  • with movies that I watched, I feel it not interesting, too boring
  • with movies that are new to me, I don't feel deeply about the movie
I use ubuntu os, so I am too tired when setting any media player to enable dual subtitles.

Do you know what different between "Do you" and "Are you" when making a question?
Do you KNOW the difference between "to do" and "to be" or Are you NEW to this goddamn language?

then watch something that you don't need to feel it deeply, maybe some sitcoms or cartoons for kids (or for adults if you liek :shame:). Also I suggest using only english subtitles, if you don't know something, google it immediately.

you make me remember a story that I met a few days ago.
My colleague was a winner in a mini-game at the company. The gift is a tree.
A few days later, I asked him "are you receiving a tree"? (My mean is "cậu nhận cây chưa?")
I see a bit bewildered on his face, and after a few seconds, he said "ah, not yet"

I tried this once but it felt kinda weird so I dropped it :beat_brick:
I sometime do it when listening to audio book tho. I always read out loud cool lines from the book, it make me feel cool :shame:
My flesh is stone. My blood rages hot as molten iron. I have a thousand eyes. A thousand swords. And one mind.

Who am I?
What am I?
But I know the answers to these questions. I believe, at last, that I do.
Strangers, you bring pain. You bring suffering. You bring to so many dreams the dust of death.
But, strangers, I am Icarium.
And I bring far worse.
Man I've always love these epic lines :still_dreaming:

This right here is the answer. Simple cartoon for kid is god like tool for learning, easy to listen to, many common used words and phrases. You just have to grab avatar the last air bender and go no brain, 30 mins every days :beauty:

Damn it, I got covid at the worst time possible. It's the end of an project and the start of another. So I'm currently working on 2 Project, then covid hit me. This evening I had to go to the office to take my stuff for working from home. And guess what happened. I met a bunch of thieves in the office. :beat_brick:
I ran out, called for some workers and brought some weapons. When we returned they had all left, I lost almost 100 million vnd worth of Inox. I did all these while on 37-38C of fever. FML :beat_brick:

What does it feel like when you have a happy family or have a romantic love story when you're in highschool. I feel like i don't have any luck in love or life. Desperately looking for something to hold on every single morning. For years, I haven't been able to cry when I'm sad or lost something special. The thing is loneliness and sorrow are always by my side.

keep your mind comfortable, eat and sleep properly, take medicine if needed, it only takes about 1 week you will be well again

my reading and listening skills are decent, but speaking and writting just terrible, do u guys have any advice
my writing is shite too :ah:
about speaking, the only way you can improve is to mimic native speakers, since you don't have anyone else to practice with but yourself.
also, don't make mistakes like a lot of people, the way they pronounce the word "have" as "he vờ" is always a kii to me, or randomly add "s" after words for no reason.
the last thing is, don't make sentences the way you do in vietnamese, eg. "speaking and writing just terrible".

You can't speak and write for 3 reason:
  • lack of vocabulary and grammar expressions
  • try to translate your idea word by word or phrase by phrase

What to do:
  • learn more, read more, listen more, build up your vocab.
  • pick 1-3 words a day and write 2-3 sentences with each. They can be individual or relative with each other.

What to write:
  • if you have some ideas using those words, google to find some examples with the same ideas. Write sentences following their structures.
  • when you learn any expressions that can changes your sentences, return and re-write them.
  • if your have nothing to write, like you have no idea, then googling and follow their ideas, their structures, you may need them in future.
