GALAX launches GeForce RTX 3080/3070 LHR series with nerfed Ethereum mining performance

GALAX officially confirms the LHR series, releases three cards

This is the first time we get to see how new LHR series are being advertised by board partners.

GALAX RTX 3080/3070 LHR (FG Series), Source: GALAX

According to GALAX, the LHR stands for ‘Lower Hash Rate’. We have previously heard that it might refer to ‘Lite Hash Rate’, but in the end, it shouldn’t really matter, because it means the same thing. What should matter is that the Ethereum mining hash rate has been confirmed to be lowered on these cards.

GALAX does not necessarily want customers to notice that these cards are not the non-LHR series, the packaging of these custom cards appears to be identical to the models already released. However, the new cards received a slightly different moniker of ‘FG’. Galax does not explain what this means yet.

The specification pages confirm the GPU variants being used by RTX 3070 LHR and RTX 3080 LHR models, as well as the estimated hash rate produced with these cards.

The hash rate to LHR models appears to be half of the current RTX 30 series offer. Do note that those numbers do not account for typical mining optimizations, which can easily increase those numbers though power limiting or memory overclocking.

At this point, we are not sure if other board partners are to will follow GALAX and at least try to name these cards in a different way. We decided to list those cards separately in our database, this should help you find the models with limited hash rate once they become available.

ASUS submits 100+ new GeForce RTX 3080Ti, RTX 3070Ti, LHR and CMP models to EEC

ASUS planning 111 new graphics cards

According to the fresh filing to EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission regulatory office), ASUS will be substantially extending its portfolio of NVIDIA graphics cards.

ASUS-RTX30-Hero-Banner-1200x344.jpg

We usually see EEC updates to be focusing around one or two SKUs, but this is probably the first time we see one board partner refresh its whole lineup of graphics cards. More than one hundred graphics cards were added to EEC featuring yet unreleased RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti models, but also refreshed LHR (Lite Hash Rate) series and Cryptomining Processor (CMP HX) models.

The EEC filing reveals that ASUS will be launching all ROG STRIX variants with RTX 3080 Ti model, including water-cooled ROG STIRX LC series, an anime-inspired GUNDAM series, as well as ROG STRIX WHITE and its traditional ROG STRIX series. Some listings feature as many as three sub-variants for each series, including OC, Advanced and non-OC models.

The RTX 3070 Ti is only getting the black and silver ROG STRIX models, but it will also be available under EK (with preinstalled EK water block), TUF, and TURBO (with blower-type cooler).

ASUS V2 series

Additionally, we have a long list of V2 models, which are more than likely ASUS LHR series. Interestingly the list also features RTX 3090 graphics cards, which are not officially getting the LHR treatment, but this might suggest that they would in the future. Apart from that RTX 3080, RTX 3070, RTX 3060 Ti, and RTX 3060 are all getting new V2 SKUs. Some less popular (or more precisely harder to obtain) models are not listed here, such as ROG STIRX WHITE or GUNDAM, which suggests those will be now exclusive to the GA102 Ti series.

ASUS CMP series

Finally, we have a list of CMP models for cryptocurrency mining. We have already seen the ASUS CMP 30HX model, but only now it has been listed at EEC. What might be interesting is that ASUS expects different memory variants of each CMP card. This has not been confirmed by NVIDIA yet, but it may suggest that NVIDIA will be expanding the list of CMP 30HX models, which would offer a similar hash rate, but different memory capacity.

Custom NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti model appears in leaked GPU-Z screenshot

NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti with factory-overclocking

French website reveals the specs of a custom model with GA102-225 GPU.

The GPU-Z software has recently been updated to the 2.40.0 version with full support for the upcoming RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards. Guys over at Ginjfo thought they would demonstrate the support by revealing the screenshot featuring the one and only – RTX 3080 Ti. The sub vendor ID is hidden, but it is shown on the right as 1458. This means that the graphics card is made by Gigabyte, who is working on the Gaming, Vision, and Eagle series (not to mention the AORUS, but those are higher-clocked for sure).

The screenshot confirms the PCI Device ID of 2208 as well as the NVIDIA 466.54 press driver for the RTX 3080 Ti. Do note that this driver does not support RTX 3070 Ti, hence why we are not seeing any leaks yet. The GPU-Z software correctly recognizes the ROP and TMU count of 112 and 320 respectively. Right below we attached the previous GPU-Z readout from the public validation which listed 853 TMUs, which is obviously wrong.

NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition has a base clock of 1365 MHz, which is mirrored in the screenshot. The boost clock, however, is factory-modified to 1710 MHz, which is 45 MHz higher than the reference clock (1665 MHz). A confirmation on memory specs is also provided. The RTX 3080 Ti features 12GB GDDR6X memory clocked at 19 Gbps. This enabled a bandwidth of up to 912.4 GB/s.
