The information I received is that the warmer is a late Victorian or Edwardian piece, circa 1890 to 1910. The cast pottery warmer includes CHAUFFEUSE diagonally across the front as seen, which along with the glossy brown glaze adds to the visual appeal of the piece. I found that the literal translation of this word is "Fireside".
In this day and age, the warmer would be great re-purposed as a doorstop or as a piece of decor. Actually, as found, the offering included a handmade wooden tray / stand. The additional information I received was that a past owner had made the stand to re-purpose the warmer for table side use with hot dishes, or fireside with a kettle or pot with the brick resting on the stand. It was suggested that soaking the wooden stand in water would prevent scorching. I have no idea as to whether or not any of this is accurate, but the stand will be included as an "extra". The main value is for the warmer itself, however, and no discount will be give for not including the stand.
