thảo luận Practicing English with vOzers :D

Well, let hope that this thread will pan out better than the last one. Will post in here occasionally, probably depending on how people reacts to my post. Mostly will be vent posts about my day and the like. It is not going to be good nor entertaining, since my day job is a computer sales and repair man/guy/ dude/ inserts what ever pronoun you like.

Let start off with today. Riding across Hanoi like a mad man. In the morning went to one of my computer sales guy acquaintance to pick up a monitor since I sold the last one I got the day before, which mean now, I don't even have a computer to use. That monitor ended up being a tad more pricey than I would like and there are a few blemishes on it. Seems to be some moisture between the polarizing layer and the LCD layer. Will try to dry it out with a hair dryer tomorrow. Even though the monitor still have a warranty from Dell, I much rather have a monitor to use right now and not have to wait at least a month or so in this pandemic to have a monitor to use. Just my luck as well, since I after all this I saw a post where a guy is selling 15 of the monitor I used to have for a really good price. You win some you loose some I guess.

After picking up the monitor, I went to my SSD supplier and pickup a few SSD to install in the two systems I planned the day before. Got non of the SATA SSD I would like but there were lots of NVME SSD for not that much more money and the NVME SSD are one of the faster model there is so it is a no brainer for me. Got it on credit sale as well so I don't have to bother with payment til about a week or two from now.

Then, to complete my two planned systems, I wen't to a local distributor to pick up the CPUs, the motherboard and the power supply units. Got those on credit sale as well, so a huge leverage for me in this lean time of pandemic. Ironically the CPUs are what we called "tray" and not boxed CPUs, but they are only 8% cheaper than the boxed variety at retail of one of the major retailer in Hanoi. But at least I got it on credit sale. This just goes to show you that this business is not easy and margin are really thin.

Got back home and have steamed fish for lunch with mom and dad. Then spent time building the two systems. It went over quickly since I have build in this case before and there is no SATA drives in it so there are much less cables to deal with. Finished with those to system I went to deliver a monitor to a client 18-20km away in a silly old township call Rùa Thượng. Never heard of it before but it is not that far away of a drive and it is kinda close to another shop which I just sold some RAM to a few day before that they reported as not working back to me. Killing two bird with one stone so there I went. Afterward on the way back home I swing by my favorite GPU supplier to pickup some new stock, which ended up taking longer than expected since most of the stuff he had on hand was no good. But in the end we managed. At this point it was like 7PM so I scrambled back to my last ticket of the day, getting a Wifi card for a customer who I had sold a rig the day before. This was done without too much fuss. Finally got home, had some instant noodle and then back to work cleaning the GPUs I just bought. Took them all apart, give them a good washing (Yes, you can wash electronic, just make sure there are no electricity when there is water on them and you should be good) and then bake them in the dish dryer. One didn't make it, it spit out some weird artifacts on screen but it had happened to me before. This mean there are still moisture in the GPU and it need more time to dry out for good. That will be left til the next day then.

Well, by now we are all caught up. Will update this if I ever had the time or the will to do so. Used to do thing like this all the time in Uni as part of my assignment. 5-6k words "light paper" usually written the night before it is due. It is a good thing to have the ability to do, so I don't want it to rust away. Until the next time.

Your humble and bumbling computer repair tech.
I have used a Dell laptop since I was a sophomore. Although it is probably not the most powerful and expensive computer in the world, it serves me very well with flims and basic needs. Besides, I am a laptop addict, so I love the idea of having a Macbook with a large screen, up-to-date features and a perfect look.

Dude, find a proper teacher. Despite being quite nerdy and techy, I still don't believe in this whole online learning and work from home shit. Yes you'll see that one kid popping up on TV speaking English like it's nothing, and chances are their parents would say 'mah kid learnt it online' or something. Call it what you want, but to me it's just some BS they show on TV to prove how 'smart' Vietnamese people are. Choose your own narrative, don't let those BS interfere with your life. It doesn't matter if it takes 15 years or whatever year to master English. The only thing that counts is your ability to use the language. Stick with it and keep persevering mate.

TL;DR: find a teacher, apps won't work, keep learning.

Bonus: the reason why writing and speaking are so challenging is because they are output skills, which require lots of input.

P.s. I spent a good 10 minutes on this post.
The thing is, I am short of money by the pandemic, it is hard to manage the tuition. :D

Yes, a highly qualified teacher will help you a lot because you don't have a hard time struggling with english mistakes that you may not know.

Hey guys, I need your advice. My reading and listening skills are not too bad but there is a big problem. Most of time I listen by guess that means I don't listen exactly the word but guess it meaning in the sentense.
For example: the words nice, nine or night. I don't pay attention to listen the ending sounds so when listening those word almost same for me. This issue also effect to my speaking and writing. Sometimes I made very common mistake like use nine instead of night (I understand the words but I pronoun it wrong so I type it wrong)
Is there any tips that can help me improve this situation? I'm very appreciate.
p/s: please also help to point out mistake in my above writing.
Thanks a lot
Ending sounds in English are so good and beautiful, and those are not hard for you to speak. Do it frequently and dont hestitate to do it. Ending sounds make your pronunciation and accent more professional and natural.

It's weird when there is a wall of text here.
Because I am struggling when I want to write something long, my post usually was some short sentences. I feel like there are a bunch of fragments around my mind, make me cant figure out how to write a smooth sentence.
Maybe I need to improve my grammar or expand my vocabulary?

To be honest, the content that you want to tell is vital than anything. You just dont care what kind of sentence you use.

Besides, if you want to have long or fancy sentences in your writing, you may use some words like "althought, in spite of, and, however...". When you use them, your writing automatically lengthen, along with the content.

Try it.

From Zero to 7.0 in one year sounds too good to be true my friend.
I think her baseline was around 5. Many said that they started learning from scratch, but they had been through many English lessons since they were twelve. So they have gained vocabulary foundation and what they need is how to use it properly.

of couse, pal, i'd never ever though to get 7.0 before. it not like a piece of cake. And it is more difficult for someone who started with nothing... but " practice make perfect" does it right???

I want to say thanks for your post. Your day has many happy things,
But, my day, it is not well so far. Today, I get information about my company where I apply for. They refused my CV, and the reason was: I am older than they expect :(. But, I think this is not the real reason, maybe, the real reason about my English skill :(

Recently I moved to an apartment to live with two friends after a long time stay alone. We played guitar, sang familiar songs together, this made me remember when I was in university.:adore:
:adore:
i am more inclined to live alone (or with my girlfriend which means just 2 people, even though i don't have any) . move in together is an effectively solution, of course, you guys can share the rent and stuffs, take care of each other, but treat them nicely, and be careful with your *** = ((

I live with a couples :D, we learned together at highschool and university :D.
I'm just a 3rd year student so i'm waiting for a software engineer intern position = ((. I've already done 3 round interview, includes a take home test round, I finished it in more than 2 days ... maybe it's too hard to get an internship
Nice, I'm quite surprised when u have to face with 4 rounds in an interview for an intern position, perhaps this is big company?
I'm developer too. Which langue you are using?

Sent from Xiaomi MI 9 SE using vozFApp

Finally, finally this morning I got the reject email. So sad while I really love this company and it quite suits for my career path. Maybe I didn't try hard enough... I've failed from 2 companies for just an intern position, perhaps it's the time to doubt myself am I good enough???? Felling empty now...
