Hi there
this is my first ~~threat~~ thread
I’d like to share with y’all my favorite books.
I might say
”In order to gain more knowledge and also your vocabulary READING is one of the best ways to get them.
I know quite a few good books for English learners at different levels and would like to share them with you guys”
But no, I just go straight to the point

- Beginners:
There are 6 or 7 different levels of difficulty from the series ”Oxford bookworm library”
-Intermediate:
There are many choices for this level but I would recommend the Diary of a Wimpy Kid, it's a little advanced sometimes since it used lots of slangs and idioms. (and the culture) but in general it's quite easy to read.
-Advanced :
Well at this level you don't need advice to know what to read lol.
What is your favorite?

I think you should listen to English every day ( listen to what you can understand at least 80%).

Well, it's a good question, I think there are several tests online to figure it out. I personally think that Intermediate is if one can read and understand some daily basis conversations, simple English sentences and talk a little, you know, understand the question and give an appropriate response. No more no less. But people at advanced level they can do more than that, they can extend the topic as how they want, answer the question with more language flexibility, they can express their feelings Easily and stuff.

What if an user of English struggle in giving an appropriate respond to daily basis task, but still be able to read advanced level English ?

Lol yeah some people are like that. I think they have the knowledge (so they can read and get the information) but to speak they need skills. And that's what they don't have. Too much textbooks and lack of practice.

I usually just read what i like. i bought this book (pic related) couple months ago and it is the best novel i have ever read. It depicts the psychological development of an intelligent man who commits muders because of the desperate situation in which he finds himself.

I try to read Sapiens: A Brief history of Humankind. My first Eng book. :beat_brick:

After one chapter i read it again in Vietnamese. It so crazy. Now i'm part 7%

P/s: read on Kindle is good way to learn, comfortable for eyes and user-friendly dictionary.

sounds interesting, I like stuff like this too. I read “The girl before” it’s about a girl named Jane lives in a minimalism designed house. There was a girl that lived here before named Emma.
As Jane discovering the death of Emma, she realized that the house is slowly, psychologically killing her the same way as well. But Jane is always one step behind this tragedy.

I use kindle too. It's a good reading app

User of English is nonsense. We don’t use that term in the US or any English speaking countries. That is Vietnamese English. I have lived in the US for ten years, and I have a college education. I never heard or saw the term “user of English”.

Also, I didn’t understand what you were talking about in your comment “What if an user of English struggle in giving an appropriate respond to daily basis task, but still be able to read advanced level English ?”

Respond is a verb. It should be “response”. In addition, it should be “struggles” instead of “struggle”. It is very hard for native English speakers to understand what you mean by saying “appropriate respond to daily basic task, but…”

You should learn how to think and say like native English speakers instead of literally translating your thoughts from Vietnamese to English word by word.

I think we should not criticize or correct each other about their English here because the point in this thread is not to practice our writing. Hoanglaotu wants to share his/her favorite English books for reading and ask others for some more recommendation. Even though a correct use of English is always expected, correctness may discourage people's confidence.
For beginner, apart from Oxford bookworm library, you may try other books in Penguin Reader series. One of my favorites in this series is "How to be an alien" by George Mikes.
