TL;DR: Life is not as planned, returned home after "3 tại chỗ" but instead of home it's a hell hole.
Guys, let me tell you about my day.
A little bit background story first, I work in construction job which makes me move every few months. For this project I live with my friend, who is also an engineer, and another worker. Usually I prefer to stay alone but this province is having 2 major project at the same time. Which means it was not easy to find a house/room for rent so I had to make do with what I got. The original idea was that I and my friend share the house (2 bed rooms). But this young worker asked me if he can stay with us instead of other workers because he doesn't like drinking and those who works in construction job will know how much a group of worker drink (almost every day if you ever wonder).
This guy is a bright young (19-20) man, and I thought he might have a chance to become a workshop supervisor if he willing (which we currently lacking). So I think "why not?" and struck a deal with him: "he's free to live in the house, he's free to eat everything in the house,... All he has to do is cleaning whenever the house getting dirty". Sorry it's a little long for a background story, I'm rambling too much sometimes.
So fast forward to the last 1.5 month (~around early Aug), he had lived with me for about 10+ months and cleaned the house about 3-4 times. Usually it's me who do the cleaning, but only my room and the path to my room (yes I'm lazy lmao).
And now the story begin,
At early Aug, Covid struck Bà Rịa hard, and 16th decree was declared. We were left with 3 choices:
- To stay at the construction site 24/24 which is almost impossible due to the lacking of a place to shower/bath.
- To stay at the rent house with no idea when will it over.
- To stay with all the other workers and have a bus to bring everyone every morning (in case of me and my friend, we live at my boss' house)
So me and my friend went to my boss' house, and the worker dude? He decided to choose the 4th option. He went back home, at Vũng Tàu, got caught by the police paid 2 mil fine. Then he proceed to call me and ask if the company can pay for his fine.
Fast forward again, today, 16th decree was over, my friend and I, we decided it was time to go back to our rent house.
It was PM 5:00, we took the covid test, finished the reports, closed the office and went back to our sweet home. Now that 16th decree was no more, we made our plan to eat our fill , to have those ice cream that had waited for us for over a month in the so cold and lonely freezer.
But life, life is rarely what one planned.
We arrived at home, opened the door, and turned on the light. But... where is the light?? And then it struck me, that mother fucker had turned off the electricity before he left. The realization stunned me, I swore loudly and turned the electricity back up. And thus the light came, along with the scene of horror. The scene hit me first, but it was the smell, the god damn mother fucking smell that struck me the hardest. My lovely fridge, my long awaited ice cream, they had went down into a black mess of madness along with all the food we had prepared for 15th and 16th decree.
My sweet home suddenly turned into a horror house, my long day of works turned out to be not finished yet, or perhaps it had not even started. But as one of my favorite book quote says
Once you’ve got a task to do, it’s better to do it than live with the fear of it.
We brought out all the garbage bags and start shoving shit (or food, or what used to be food) into it. And then the true horror came, under those food live thousands if not millions of maggots, living and moving and wiggling maggots. But still, we did not give up, we picked everything, every animal, alive or dead, out of our long beloved fridge. But then the truth laid out before us, under all those maggots are theirs eggs, thousands and thousands of them. They were everywhere, we tried to sweep them all out but they kept appearing more and more... from inside the cold vent. That's when I said "Enough, **** it, let us throw this shit away", and so we did. We threw our beloved fridge out without saying any good bye (well my friend almost puke on it when we brought it out thou), and clean the house inside out.
It was PM 9h30, we have finished all we can, but the smell, the horror, the sadness is still there. We was exhausted and hungry (it's not like we have any stomach for it at the time too lmao). The empty space where the fridge used to be in the house is like the empty space in my heart. So we decided leave that place of sadness behind and get back to the office.
And now here I am, sharing with you my share of shitty day with my long rambling.
I don't know if anyone will read all this but I'm sorry to make you read all this shitty writing and horrible experience. I just wanted to share this horror story with someone lol.
