thảo luận Practicing English with vOzers :D

@KimSoHyunGoddness There is no commitment here so don't think too much. And, there are million ways to reject something. I can give you an example, just say that you had a girlfriend. Problem solved?

Anyways, relating to the thread, I just lost interest in the language. I feel bored using it although I have to use it every day, and I am only in the intermediate level. I feel the need to improve English because I still cannot express myself 100% in English, and that is not good for me. But it is so bored, I enjoy Vietnamese media, I am not that interested in foreign content.

Well, I guess we cannot just do what we want in this life, eh?

Hi guys, can anyone help me to translate the word “a Holt”?
I have been using Google to find answers but I think maybe that's not the true meaning

Please provide the context aka the whole sentence/paragraph that contain the word you want to be translated.
I'm just read that in Forrest Gump. The full sentence's " Sue has managed to grap a holt of Major Fritch and he has got his hand down in her spacesuit".

After reading the whole chapter 13.....I think it means "grab ahold" aka grabbing Major Fritch tightly....

This one was written in 1994, almost 30 years ago...I think there are some change in English from there to now....

Not yet, I have to wait after Tet for the reunion. Is this thread still alive?
Thread hasnt been brought up for a while. I did want to bring up some random topic so we can have some fun English discussion, but I was too lazy. I think I will try to do it around Tet, but I'm not sure though, I'm a lazy ass mother fucker. :shame:
I hope your boss still pays full salary to you for free for 3 months
Aye, It's been a good time. I got some free time with my family, help clreaning things up and prepare for Tet. Sadly a new project will be launched on the 3rd day of lunar January (**** Korea), so I'll have to leave early

No problem, it is okay to have other priorities. It is tough to initiate conversations if you are not in the mood anyway.

I want to study for 6 to 8 hours, but the problem is I always feel sleepy and tired after a short time. What should be a solution for staying awake for a long time to study.

It is normal for people to lose concentration after studying for a particular time frame (about 3 to 4 hours daily). Most people limitation when doing heavy taxing thinking stuffs is 4 hours. Therefore study for 6 to 8 hours is doable but not practical if your goal is to study consistently everyday. Here are some tips to help you gain more alert throughout the day for your study:
  • Wake up in the same time everyday (for example, decide to wake up at 6 a.m daily) and try to have at least 8 hours before bed if possible. p/s: wake up at the same time everyday is better than have 8 hours of sleep (doing both is better obviously).
  • Have a protein focus breakfast (science prove that protein will help you become alert, awake after you eat it, whereas carbohydrate such as bread, rice make you drowsy, sleepy and tired). Fruits and vegetables also good to improve your mood while studying (ingest positive chemical to your brain).
  • Take a short nap (15 or 26 minutes) to regain some alertness throughout the day.
