Dude, if you're super horny and so is your girl friend, by all means, go for it. I don't know if i'm being boomer-ish or not, but I'm just not a huge fan of people fucking around and bragging about losing their virginity in the early teens or how many girls they have slept with or whatever. Then again, at the end of the day, who am I to judge

.

Well, I generally do not find myself agree with you on this comment when you referred them as “super horny”, which sounds both disapproving and sarcastic.

As for me, it is just a personal choice, and the only thing that one must make sure whenever making a decision is that he/she is able to take full responsibility under all circumstances. For this case, I would take getting pregnant as the worst scenario. Thus, if the girl is ready to either suffer abortion or giving birth in such case, plus her partner has been well acknowledged and agreed with the solution at the beginning, there is nothing wrong at all. Specifically for my case, I did totally the same as what I abovementioned :byebye:

Of course, it must be distinguished between having sex with his/her ONLY partner at the time they are in a relationship, and doing that with a number of people with no consideration. I am not a big fan of this either.:sweat: It sounds weird to me, yet serves as normal to a lot of people out there actually

You’d better start with a grammar book. Theoretical as it may sound, it is the best way to improve your grammar. I think that you may know all grammar rules but do not how to use them properly, and a good grammar book will help you re-arrange all the messy ideas in your mind. You may wish to go to the topic for materials in this same box and download Grammar in Use, which is believed to be common and useful, and thus, be a good beginning.

It is a beneficial thread. Many people here are ready to help others. As for me, the best thing is, we can have some conversations daily to relax or summary after a day. I will try to write every day, so I hope you guys can help me to improve my writing. :byebye:

Alright, you can see I only can use beginning vocabularies, and I can't write long sentences. Could you tell me the way to improve it? Or how can you achieve the current level?

Totally agree with you. As long as you're ready and you can take responsibility, you can enjoy sex as it belongs to our human nature. It's not against culture or morality, and it's really good for your health both mentally and physically :) The best scenario would be having sex with your loved one voluntarily and safely, and never ever cheat on your partner :)

Yes. If the couple is fine with having esx before marriage, it's basically moving to another level of the relationship, therefore, I have nothing against this. It's just that everywhere I go on the internet, there's always one dude asking "is it fine to have sex before marriage" blah blah... one night stand... blah blah... fwb... blah blah. Don't you guys feel annoyed seeing that stupid question again and again? And for some reasons, the answer is always the same, "go for it", "remembers to wear protection", etc. Isn't the real person to ask is the receiving end of asked action? If I had a girlfriend and if we were really serious about it, then heck yes. I've been preparing for that like... my whole life. There would be no such question popping up,and the only thing I'd share is the experience i.e. how it feels like or how long did I last. Things like that actually serve a real purpose, and therefore worth posting, imo.

Edit: I might have overreacted. He was only asking for opinions. Self bricking :beat_brick: :beat_brick: .

If you're not gonna sit a test in the next few months then it's OK to just use simple words, language is just a communication tool and it's better to have an easily understandable conversation, right? :) Take it step by step, you're gonna achieve your target one day :)

What do you think about sex before marriage?
It's very hard to say. In my opinion, I and my girlfriend have been sex before marriage but it happened after I decided to marry her.
Beside some threads with [Nosex] tag, this place is full of love, sharing and empathy. Everyone comes to help each other, talk about the difficulties of himself and encourage the stranger.:beat_brick:
I don't like [Nosex] tag very much :P

I begin learning English Grammar again, come back to very basic like Tense: Simple present, simple past...

While you're there, you might as well take what you've learnt and post something using it. Lots of people can help you out and it'll be wayyyy more fun and natural studying like that.
yeah, that's right, I want to train my grammar and writing skills, and on voz, many people can help me fix my error in grammar and improve my writing skills. No way training better than using English as much as i can :)

I'm pretty sure that most of people in this thread start learning English in the same way with grammar books. If you are in highschool, you probably have been familiar with English books for roughly 7 years. It is going to be around 10 years if you are in college by now. If those books did not work out in the past then why do you believe It will now ?
From my perspective, it's better to learn English from your hobbies. The reason is simple, you will not get bored which your hobbies easily. Studying from books is more suitable if you want to achieve a certain goal in a short amount of time. In the long run, I don't think it's a good idea.

Thing is your English is not bad. At least not that bad in my opinion. You made a long post with an acceptable number of mistakes. And what your GF have done is pretty ordinary too, I have seen countless of people did that. After all, Ielts is just a test. Last but not least, in case you have not decided what to give your GF yet, just **** her dude. She will love it. :sure:
Such a lewd idea. But i like it.

The reason why I suggested him to start with a book is that I believe that he has gained some knowledge through his reading, but he cannot use it properly. His inactive knowledge is like small particles of the machine, and he gets to know more about the particles he has on hand before he is able to categorize and arrange them logically, then master them as a machine as a whole.

That’s for this case only, and if I meet someone with no idea about English or English grammar, I will not advise the same because I have never been in a similar case to them.

——————————————

I heard a lot about learning through hobbies, but it is a real challenge to me as I do not have any special interest on anything :chaymau: Really admire those who work this way :sosad:

——————————————

I have been learning English for almost 20 years. In the beginning, I learnt English at a local foreign center in a small province to the South of HCMC. Back to 2001, it only cost my parents 40-60k for a 3-month course, and 5k (or 10k, perhaps) for my textbook :sure: I was totally dump for the first 3 years :pudency: then I took a gap year from English and resumed in secondary highschool. Strange as it seems, upon my return, my English started to improve dramtically for no specific reason :surrender:
The only reason I can come up with is that I had an accummulation phase in my primary school, when I grew slowly as one of the worst students in my English class. Then, during the year I was away from English, what I had learnt slowly found their place in my mind, and when I resumed from a different approach (FYI, back to my time, we should start learning English in Grade 6, so I began to learn from ABC again), they got re-arranged in a more logical way that I could make noticeable improvement. That was how the tipping point approached my English skills :gach:

—————————

I am now quite satisfied with my English, honestly. I can communicate confidently with any foreigners at work, either face-to-face or via phone call or conference call, and I almost eliminate my Vietnamese sounds when I speak English, except for the intonation and some difficult words (I used to face a huge problem with the word “result” and everyone had no idea why I could not pronounce it :what: ). One of my favorite ways of practice is to talk to myself whenever I am alone, haha :D

——————————

Urrgggggg, how frustrating, I wrote a long post on my phone and accidentally swiped back to cause it disappear :brick:

Disclaimer: People who prepare to do IELTS or similar tests in a short amount of time should stick to books and ignore my post.

^ you made some fair points, but in your story, the turning point in my humble opinion is some how after the gap year from English, you made some progress. It is very important to acctually achieve something in the progression of learning any subject. The feeling of figuring out by yourself a math problem or understanding a joke in English is pretty much the same. It brings some weird joys to your mind but more than that it also provide "motivation".
"Motivation" is the root of perseverance and with enough perseverance we can do almost anything we want. Many students struggle with their English just because it's does not matter how hard they try, how many vocabulary they memorize, their test score's still suck. And as a result, they will lost their "motivation". Maybe they're doing it the wrong way, maybe the way of books is not suitable for them and maybe learning English is not all about score. Someone said that learning a language is also learning about the culture so maybe grammar fomulars and vocabulary in books is not enough. You can explore a culture by playing game, watching movie, reading kid's fables or novels, listening to music ... or checking out youtube contents like those in #113. It will take alot of time to gain significant improvement but the process is more enjoyable.
I don't deny the fact that academic books help many people improve their English skills and achieve their goals. It works with those people does not mean that it will work with someone else. I just want to say, if you can not find your "motivation" with books, it's time to try something else.

Yah, people be like 'omg, im so bad at Engrisk' and grind for 12 hours straight, only then to give up altogether lol. They just don't realise how long it actually takes to properly learn English. This is made even worse by a plethora of videos and news on TV and internet all screaming "ha ha, I'm fluent and you suck". And the amount of time is not gonna be the same for everyone, but 1 - 2 years seems to be a good starting point.

So, for those who are struggling, "you'll get there".

// yes. Most of us have already put more than 10 years into English, but it's not a continuous period of time. I bet if we count the total number of hours, it'll be much less than we think.

So for me:
4 periods per week at school = 3 hours
3 1.5 hour session per week at tutor = 4.5 hours
Thats 7.5 hours per week. This means in 10 years I've spent roughly
7.5*4*11(month)*10=3300 hours

Compraing that with my 4000h in League of Legends, 2300h in CS and 1000h in other games, 10 years now feels more like 2-3 years.

...........................Thoughts..............................
I used to think offline games "teach" english better than those Eng teachers at school or there are more things in english that i can learn from video games.

Years later...i realise that games is what persuade me to learn english in the early days or it is my first motivation to learn English
......................... About the games..................
We got a chance to meet and interact with vitrual characters through dialogues and actions, observe how they speak and react in different situations

another way may give the same experiences is watching interaction movies (example: Bandersnatch )
..........................................................................
I thinking of writing down the whole learning experience but maybe another time.... Just sharing some of my thoughts of how i approach english language
(Sorry...i haven't wrote english paragraph for years)

I think we have the same way to start learning English. I used to play Diablo II, as you may know, that game is totally in English, and I have to "google" to know what is this item function or understand what the quest requires. Gradually, it improves my English vocabulary.
But, it's just a very small part of the world. I find it hard to deal with other topics like economics, history, etc. they use a very long sentence that I can't understand even if I have "google" every word in it. I think one of my problems is vocabulary and how to separate the sentence.
Can you guys give me some advice? Thanks

We have many ways to learn English, some people play strategery game and chat with another player, some people play the game like Final Fantasy and using the dictionary to understand the conversation on the game (without using direction on the web), and some people using Youtube to listen to some talk on this to training "listen" skills and try to write down whatever I hear from the conversation to training "writing" skills. And many many many another way :), but you must focus on the target and use more time as you can to learn a new language
