One, Vietnamese nationalists are always there to repeatedly stress how China wanted to occupy Vietnam and then how the Vietnamese defeated the mighty China.
Two, the truth is that all the attacks on Vietnam in Chinese history were because Vietnam was a vassal state of China and Vietnam's own internal factions fought and the losing side asked the central dynasty for reinforcements, all of which can be traced from ancient texts.
Thirdly, there was really no interest in occupying Vietnam because it was poor in resources (almost none) and had a large population (nearly 100 million). To occupy Vietnam would mean carrying a huge burden.
As a joke, it would be better to occupy Burma, or Laos, or Mongolia, or even Australia, than to occupy Vietnam.
Occupying Vietnam would be a 100 per cent loss.
The Chinese are not that stupid.
Fourth, the north of Vietnam (about a third of Vietnam) was historically Chinese land, while the south of Vietnam (including today's Ho Chi Minh City, also about a third of Vietnam) was historically Cambodian land.
Only one third of the land is really not Chinese, nor Cambodian.
Fifthly, and most importantly, with reference to the genetic analysis of countries such as Thailand and Cambodia, they have one-third Han Chinese ancestry, and being much closer is Vietnam, the percentage will only be higher.
I talked to experts from the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences Hanlin on this topic and he told me that Han Chinese have been migrating in Vietnam since the period of Chinese rule in northern Vietnam, two thousand years ago, and that the smaller surnames in Vietnam are basically descendants of Chinese Han Chinese. Many have been immigrating for over a thousand years.
Sixthly, Vietnamese nationalists even go so far as to say things that lack logic in order to have "self-respect". For example, in 2019, a Vietnamese private genetic company published a report claiming that the Vietnamese are genetically close to the Thais, so that the Vietnamese are not descended from the Bai Viet, but are indigenous to Southeast Asia. several other Vietnamese respondents on quora cited this result, but they forgot that the Thais themselves admit that their ancestors came from the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau in China. The Thais themselves don't even consider them to be indigenous to Southeast Asia.
Seven, the Vietnamese respondent even made the joke that Pho came from France on the grounds that the French eat onions, forgetting that the French do not eat rice. Actually I think they should have said that Pho comes from Italy with a bit more credibility, because Italy has pasta, and beef and onions, so that the Vietnamese would only have to say that Pho just adds a bit of water to the pasta.
What is true is that Pho comes from the Chiu Chow rice noodles brought over by Chiu Chow immigrants at the beginning of the last century.
This is the old shop in Ho Chi Minh that I visited and saw their signboard, which had the Chinese character "mifen" on it
Chiu Chow rice noodles, when they arrived in Vietnam, added local Vietnamese vegetables, forgoing the Chiu Chow vegetables that could not be bought.
Rice noodles have been used in China for nearly 2,000 years
Eight, the Vietnamese also say that Ao Dai has multi-ethnicity, they forget that the Vietnamese government officially translates Ao Dai as cheongsam.
Alas, there are so many that I am too lazy to continue writing.
Anyway, the words of Vietnamese nationalists make me laugh.
I have nothing against the Vietnamese people, but I am disgusted by Vietnamese nationalists. It's funny how many anonymous questions are asked on quora, questions that pretend to be doubtful, but normal people can see that the questions are indeed clearly targeted, and these anonymous questions always have a few Vietnamese accounts that are the first to respond.
For this reason I countered with a few
Huijian Wu's answer to Why did China support the Khmer Rouge?
Huijian Wu's answer to Why do Malaysia and Thailand have a higher percentage of ethnic Chinese than Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar despite the fact that the 3 countries have a border with China?
Huijian Wu's answer to Despite the fact that Cambodia people see Vietnam did with them in 1978 was the invasion but why Vietnamese claim that they rescued Cambodia?
Huijian Wu's answer to Why could China massacre the Vietnamese such as the Tong Chup massacre during the Chinese invasion war in 1979 but did not allow Japan to do the same with the Chinese?
Huijian Wu's answer to Why has China been blamed for invading and massacring the Vietnamese people in the Third Indochina War?
The Vietnamese nationalists are at it again.
“The Ao Dai was invented in the 18th century during the Nguyen Dynasty, while the Cheongsam was invented in the 1920s.”
Let me tell you about the history of the cheongsam and the Ao Dai
The fact is that the term 'cheongsam' did start in 1920. This is because the garment was not previously called cheongsam. It was called "paofu".
The cheongsam comes from Manchu costume, as you can see, the Qing court costume
Manchu costumes from earlier times
We compare this to a portrait of the Qing Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang
Compare this to Vietnamese women
The Vietnamese do not know that the 'paufu' was always a part of the Qing court's costume.
Crucially, the unearthed costume, which died in about the second year of the Da Ding era (1162)
This is a modern copy of the model
Let's compare it to the Vietnamese Aude
Why is it that Vietnamese odysseys of 100 years ago are so similar to Chinese costumes of a thousand years ago?
Can the Vietnamese nationalists give me a reasonable explanation?
