I am walking on a thin line, in an unknown land, between dark and light, sadness and joy, love and grief, life and death.
“To light a candle is to cast a shadow,” they say.
“To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure,” they say.
“A people may endure an almost incredible series of the darkest failures without breaking; but given them respite and some hope for the future, and they may not endure an unexpected denial of that hope,” they say.
How can we, no, how can I dare take such a risk? How can anyone survive such devastation? Why should any of us take such a dangerous route?
And so they say “If we are to live... we must take risks. Else our lives become deaths in all but name.”
There is an argument that we must not fear that risk, but embrace the hope and accept the risk. For the risk is the cost of hope.
Thus I kindled the light, and in turn it casted my shadow. Toward that light I go, but the nearer I get to the light, so grows the size of my shadow. And when I enjoy the light of hope, the shadow of doubt’s always lurking behind.
As I walk, the light doesn’t seem to get closer, yet the shadow keeps on growing, and started to darken my mind. The light blinds me if I dare to look too long, but to close my eyes is to see the dark and to look away is to feel the grasp of shadow.
Where do I go now if not toward the light? And so I keep following it into the unknown.
Thus here I am, treading this uncharted waters, dancing to this unknown tune, chasing the light while being hunted by my own shadow.
